You are welcome to use St John's Church for a funeral service, whether you have a particular connection with our church or not. We recommend that you initially contact Funeral Directors and tell them that you would like a church service. They can help you make arrangements with us, and with a crematorium if that is your choice. If you would prefer to contact us direct in order to discuss a funeral service, please do get in touch with us, by emailing Email: warden1 or using the form at the bottom of the Who's who and Contacts page. Our churchwardens, or another member of the Bishop's Hatfield Team, will be glad to meet with you and your family, and to support you in your bereavement before and during the funeral service, and afterwards for as long as it's needed.
If you would like to request prayer with or for your family, please either contact our churchwardens or contact our prayer coordinator by clicking Email: prayer or using the form at the bottom of the Who's who and Contacts page. Also, you may wish to pray for the bereaved using this prayer which is offered by the Church of England.
the shadow of death has fallen over me
because someone I love has died.
Be with me through this time,
comfort me with your presence,
and let me see the light of hope,
for you promise eternal life
through Jesus Christ your son,
who died and rose again.
More information about funerals, how to arrange them and what to expect, can be found on the Church of England's Funerals website https://churchofenglandfunerals.org/
