MANY THANKS

This message comes with warm and sincere thanks for all the support that so many people give to this church.  People give freely of their time and energy in so many ways, as well as contributing what they can in financial terms.  We would like to say thank you to those who give regularly, week by week, or month by month.  We would also like to thank those who give whenever they are able.  This giving is vital to the running of our church community, to maintaining our building and to enable our mission.

There are many ways by which donations to the church can be made.

  • In the weekly collection plate, donating cash via pew envelopes;
  • By standing order;
  • Payments at services using our new contactless payment facility;
  • Making payments under the Parish Giving Scheme.  This scheme was adopted by the Diocese in early 2016, and it allows people to support the church financially by making payments by direct debit.  The scheme administrators receive all donations via direct debit on the 1st of each month, and then reclaim the relevant Gift Aid element on behalf of the church and repay the donation plus the Gift Aid to the church's bank account by the 19th working day of the month.  This arrangement simplifies the current system whereby the church can only reclaim Gift Aid twice a year.  The scheme reduces administrative workload and speeds up the receipt of the valuable Gift Aid element.  New donors may feel that this is a simple, convenient and flexible way to give, and donors who currently give via any of our other methods are welcome to switch to giving via the scheme if they wish.

Legacies

You can also make a gift to the church by way of a legacy in your will.  At St John's we welcome gifts in wills, however large or small, and our policy is to use them to fund  church development projects, whether facilities, mission or other priorities.  We will always discuss bequests with executors to ensure that any gift honours the donor's wishes.  We promise to use any gift to make a difference to our church.  Information about legacies can be found on the Church of England website by going to:  https://www.churchlegacy.org.uk/downloads/gifts-of-faith-hope-and-love.compressed.pdf .

If you need any information about any of the above ways of giving, please do speak to the vicar or to one of the church wardens.
